| Monday Sept 12, 2022 at 4:00pm - 5:15pm ET The green screen is just a tool, but we, the artists, are the designers, the builders. Uncle Jumbo will offer thoughts from his experience as somebody who was a complete green screen beginner as recently as 2020, and who had the desire to use what was in his immediate environment and imagination to build visual worlds for his audience. He will discuss techniques to make engaging content; a creative philosophy that encourages the development of your vision; and how to use it at whatever skill level we currently possess. We're going to have a lot of fun doing it too! The Houston music-maker, James Pendleton (Uncle Jumbo) has been crafting tunes since he was a teenager, most recently and perhaps most notably as a member of Rosewood Thievz. After he and his wife, Ann-Marie, welcomed their daughter, Ani, to their young family in 2018, .Pendleton pivoted to his children's music project, Uncle Jumbo. “I feel like everything I’ve ever done has led to this. It’s not like a transition or I’m switching directions, it’s growth,” he said. He has published three albums: Garden Groove, Body Movin’ and Nite Nite. He states,“I’ve always thought about music as service, and I’ve wanted to give people good music and performance." |

| Monday Sept 12, 2022 at 7:30pm - 8:45pm ET This workshop would use examples from the upcoming Raffi/Lindsay Munroe album (release date: May 2022), Nursery Rhymes for Kinder Times.™ The rhymes/songs on the album were written by me and include 15 updated nursery rhymes designed to nurture kindness, empathy and gratitude. (Think Three Kind Mice who help each other get some cheese rather than Three Blind Mice whose tails get cut off by a carving knife!) The goal of the workshop would be to demonstrate how songs (not just those on that album, but others as well) can be used to support three areas for early childhood skill development: social/emotional learning, rhyming for oral language learning, and the role of family engagement in extending learning through song. Pam Gittleman has been a preschool music teacher for over 20 years. In 2020, she participated in Harvard’s Advanced Leadership Initiative Program with a focus on social and emotional learning (SEL) in early childhood at Harvard’s Graduate School of Education. Combining creativity and evidence-based research on SEL, she developed Nursery Rhymes for Kinder Times™, a collection of updated nursery rhymes with music designed to nurture kindness, empathy and gratitude. Recognizing the great fit with the kindness messaging in the Raffi and Lindsay Munroe collaborative albums, I Am Kind and Frogs and Birds, Pam pitched the idea of continuing their work together by producing an album of her updated rhymes. In Nursery Rhymes for Kinder Times™, Raffi and Lindsay have brought 15 of her rhymes to life with their unique style of making music that children and adults adore! |
| Tuesday Sept 13, 2022 at 4:00pm - 5:15pm ET To build community children must feel safe. In order to feel safe they often need to be taught directly that the do not need to be afraid of something just because it is different. This workshop intentionally uses simple songs from around the world to help acclimate American children’s ears to different languages, to different ways of saying things, and to different ways of doing things. In this workshop, participants will: 1) review a collection of simple songs in different languages that emphasize friendship, compassion, welcome and inclusion of people from different backgrounds. 2) be able to plan curriculum to encourage a friendly welcoming classroom community. 3) gain talking points to share with other educational administrators about why this approach is useful for countering bullying and other forms of ostracization. Joanie Calem is a performing songwriter and storyteller, teacher, and disability awareness advocate. Joanie intentionally works to create community, sharing the message that being different is just fine, which helps to shift the typical bullying and ostracizing trajectories that many children follow out of peer pressure. Joanie has found that the earlier children understand that everyone learns and interacts in different ways, the more compassionate and open children will be. Joanie is both the parent of a son with autism and a teacher of diverse learners. Joanie leads workshops on strategies to support individuals with SPD, autism, and other learning differences for parents, teachers, community building, disability awareness, and inclusion. |

Find out what the union has to offer you, and why so many CMN keynote speakers and Magic Penny awardees are Local 1000 members. Learning objectives for this workshop will include: 1) Acquaint participants with the union designed to support their profession 2) Listen to and answer specific questions about what professional help participants need and how the union might meet those needs. 3) Provide resources for learning more about union support for independent musicians. Bonnie Lockhart is a Northern California singer/songwriter who brings a love of diverse folk traditions to her fifty-year practice of participatory, community-building music. She is a performer, composer, educator, recording artist, and activist who believes in the transformative power of music in the lives of both individuals and communities. Bonnie is a past CMN Board president and is currently an avid member. She is also a member of AFM Local 1000, the musician’s union for gig performers. Two of a Kind is the husband-wife duo of David & Jenny Heitler-Klevans. Best known for their music for children and families, their harmonies blend seamlessly, with David’s dynamic guitar work and Jenny’s varied use of percussion resulting in a compelling performance. Two of a Kind’s combination of original songs and well-chosen covers will touch your heart, tickle your funny bone, and give you hope in these difficult times. |

| Wednesday Sept 14, 2022 at 7:30pm - 8:45pm ET Replacing songs that have racist and discriminatory roots with new songs is necessary and urgent. Writing new and compelling rhymes, finger plays, chants and songs that encourage empathy and inclusion and are entertaining and age appropriate is something we want to foster and encourage. This workshops will discuss how to choose, make and fix songs so that they work for the early childhood classroom. We will outline important and essential characteristics, helpful attitudes and practices, and lead the group through a writing exercise. Kim Wallach was a certified public school music teacher in NH from 1990 - 2004, and in MA from 2005-2018. In the 1980's she taught music at the Mom's & Tots program at the Brookline Arts Center, and at the Wellesley Nursery School in the Hills, and performed for Young Audiences in schools all over Boston and eastern MA, as well as leading songwriting residencies. From 1985-1990 she co-anchored the children's (Threadgill) stage at the Kerrville festival with storyteller Gayle Ross. Currently, she leads the weekly Zoom CMN songswap and spends her days writing songs for all ages. |

Jam Phelps is a Mix Engineer, Music Producer and owner of Denk Studios in Durham, North Carolina. Her studio is focused on uplifting marginalized voices in music such as women and LGBTQ+ folks. She has been a musician for 28 years and loves crafting unique productions and imaginative mixes in a safe environment where creativity thrives. | Thursday Sept 15, 2022 at 6:00pm - 7:15pm ET After being tasked with teaching STEM courses along with regular music classes, Kathy Sherman initially protested that she wasn't qualified, but the principal responded with, I'm sure you'll think of something! She then developed "Sound Detectives" a course curriculum suitable for 5 + year olds.This workshop will include the following: 1) Sharing the curriculum and giving other educators the platform in which to create their own programs and 2) Tapping into and feeding the INNER NERD that each musician harbors. (Like discussing acoustics and how each family of instruments makes sounds in unique ways and how we can introduce these concepts to children.) Kathy Sherman has been a musician/entertainer/educator/producer for 40+ years. Her passion is bringing the wonder of sound to young people and helping them to feel and understand the joy music brings to the world. Her degree is in Classical Guitar performance. Kathy has been a professional Greek bouzouki player since she was a teen, was a proud member of the classical comedy troupe "The Electric Guitar Quartet", and now is finishing the third in a series of "Let's Sing!" albums, this one titled "Let's Sing Songs for Little Activists! -- Big Ones Too!" She is currently learning how to play the theremin. |

| Friday Sept 16, 2022 at 4:00pm - 5:15pm ET Many children will participate in music education opportunities, but all will not become professional musicians. Cultivating the next generation of music education supporters is important for the survival of music education. During this workshop, participants will have an open discussion on how to give students the opportunity to make their voices heard as well as how character values can be intentionally taught though music education. The discussion will focus on how SOUNDS Academy uses this philosophy to see their students thrive. Kirk Johnson is a musician, performer, and educator that believes that the zip code of a child should not dictate their access to music education. Out of this belief, he founded SOUNDS Academy, a nonprofit music education organization that teaches, mentors, and provides musical experiences and opportunities for underserved youth. SOUNDS Academy teaches character values through music education. He began his musical journey in Boston, Massachusetts where he learned to play the violin and viola, took theory classes, played in chamber music groups and orchestras, touring countries like Italy, Mexico, and Cuba. As the CEO, Kirk has guided SOUNDS Academy in providing over 47,000 lessons and classes to children, while impacting an additional 19,000 students through the Musical Access program, where students attend concerts and are introduced to instruments in SOUNDS Academy’s Instrument Petting Zoos. In addition to students building confidence through performing in concerts, SOUNDS Academy is also making an academic impact with 100% of the students in their SOLO program being accepted into college on scholarship. |

Jamaica Stevens is a teacher, entrepreneur, speaker, published author and children's music artist and producer. In 2004, after teaching preschool for 7.5 years, Jamaica founded JAMaROO Kids, which specializes in providing weekly enrichment classes for young children at over 100 schools in California. Her work includes "The Vegetarian Cookbook for Kids" and "Yoga Adventure!," as well as producing the original children's album "Celebrate with JAMaROO Kids," which can be found on Itunes, Spotify and all major streaming platforms. I started writing childrens muisc and books while incarcerated. I have been in the Kindie indusrtry for a few years and had some success as an entertainer and author representing diversity and inclusion. I am a member of the Recording Academy in Los Angeles and Family Music Forward. I would love to talk about my journey into the muisc and book industry from where I came from and how I got here. We have enjoyed success in the mainstream music industry as well. We were nominatd for best hip hop and rap at the San Diego music awards and have been playing the local music spotlight as well. |

We will introduce the framework called CASEL, and explain the 5 competencies that represent educational standards throughout our educational system. She offers multi day artist- in - residencies called School of Life at elementary Schools teaching bullying prevention through the lens of music and mindfulness. She is a certified Hypnotherapist with a specialty in Mindfulness from IHF, 200 YTT from Breathe For Change, trained to teach Mindfulness to children from MindfulSchools.org, and years of performing experience for children. Bob Griffiths, aka Jamaica Bob, comes from Jamaica and his enthusiasm and energy is imbued with the joy of this rich culture. He is a Wellness Coach/ Trainer/Consultant at Breathe Better to Live Better. Griffiths is the Artistic Director at Calypso For Kids, which he created to develop better student self-esteem through music and cultural appreciation. Bob also has expertise in Classroom Management and offers workshops on how to create a healthy, productive classroom culture. Griffiths has years of performing experience and inspiring congregations as a worship leader. |

He's also Director of Recording Arts at Regis University, a summer Recording Arts teacher at Stanford University, and the owner of Reach Studios in Colorado. Come learn how to make live loop recordings with him -- and improvise songs with him in the process. Chart-topping children's recording and performing artist Cory Cullinan (aka Doctor Noize) is many things: Stanford Music grad, Master of Recording Arts, commissioned composer for stage and screen, author, app creator, teacher, speaker, studio owner, philosopher and goofball. Known for his virtuosic one-man-band shows nationwide, The Doc sings and plays a host of instruments, which he uses to loop record and write songs with his audiences on the spot. His diverse performances range from acoustic shows and book readings in smaller venues to groundbreaking symphony performances such as his acclaimed work Phineas McBoof Crashes the Symphony introducing newcomers to the wide world of orchestral music. He’s a former award-winning high school Arts, Communication & Technology Department Head and current member of the Recording Arts teaching faculty at Regis University and the University of Colorado Denver (school year) and Stanford University (summers). Ms. Liu holds two master's degrees in Music Education from Teachers College Columbia University and Classical Piano Performance from New York University. Her performance venues include the world-famous Carnegie Hall in New York, Lincoln Center, Hammerstein Hall, St. John Smith Hall in London, and Mozart Hall in Vienna. Ms. Liu has been invited to sing the American national anthem multiple times at the Professional baseball MLB and basketball WNBA games at Citi Field Stadium and Barclays Center in New York. She was also invited to perform at Gracie Mansion, the former New York Mayor Bloomberg's residence on the NYCHA Celebration Day. Ms. Liu was invited to Perform as a special guest for many famous singers from Hong Kong and Taiwan in their North American tour concerts. Ms. Liu serves as an adjudicator at the festival of NYSSMA New York State School Music Association. She has also been invited to serve as a judge in many local and international competitions, including: Global Youth Musical Instrumental Competition, BMTG International Piano Competition, U.S. Youth Talent Competition, New York Miss Chinese Beauty Pageant Talent Competition and many more. |
